WFR Recert at Moab Valley Inn - one more done and gone. Liam head instructor was excellent as well as the last minute substitute, Emily from the NW. As always, I am impressed with the seamless way WMI/NOLS instructors tag team on various topics, especially given they have not worked together previously. Liam was very supportive of his co-instructor, who was younger and newer to the job. Both stellar and brought different perspectives. The setting worked great. Instructors commented the Valley Inn and outdoor area was the best location they had worked at. They like staying at the Inn where they teach. Blizzard the last day was interesting for the final outdoor scenario... however, some lessons learned about carrying adequate insulation and shelter in the backcountry, even for a day trip. Lastly I offered the CFI CPR avators to the instructors which they readily took up on... the extra avatars allowed everyone in class to have one and sped us through that last afternoon. This should be offered to future courses, as they are stored in the warehouse and just waiting for a chance to get out of the bag and perform! I appreciate Bre at CFI hold me a spot until I could make up my mind to guide-qualify again. Thanks to Nicole and Misha too. Karla

CFI facilitated the NOLS WFR course in Moab, and they arranged for us to use the adjacent campground - making for a good space to run scenarios.

This was a challenging trip for my child. It rained every day that the group was on the river. While the weather is outside your control, water got into their tent and made their sleeping bags wet. Perhaps someone from the group could check to see if the tent was set up correctly to protect from rain/water. The food was limited in quantity and quality. I know that you are packing everything that you eat with you on the rafts, but fried tofu was rather bland/tasteless for breakfast and meals were served rather late with limited seconds. There were no snacks between meals. These pre-teens were hungry and had to work hard while being hungry. However, floating down the river was great!

CFI sets the standard for exceptional outdoor education, providing professionally organized, safe, and engaging experiences. Their instructors are knowledgeable, passionate, and excellent at guiding hands-on learning that resonates with high school students. After many years of bringing students to their field camp, I can confidently say that CFI fosters a deep appreciation for the natural world through meaningful, well-structured programming.
