In partnership with The Nature Conservancy, CFI is excited to introduce this brand new cultural seminar – a deep dive in the history and culture of the Bears Ears and Lower San Juan River regions of the American Southwest.
Join guest experts, CFI Naturalist Guides, and other curious travelers for a trip through the remote canyons of the Lower San Juan River. This Adventure Seminar is designed to explore the deep cultural, ecological, and geological history that has shaped the San Juan river and surrounding watershed.
Through interpretive talks, hikes, and engaging conversation around the campfire, we’ll dive into the political history of the river and how those decisions are impacting present challenges for the many Americans who currently rely on the river for cultural and ecological resources.
The lead educator for this seminar is Lanier Nabahe, an expert on exploring the place-based intersections of human and ecological landscapes, Tribal and multi-jurisdictional governance, and the endless interconnections of history, culture, and nature. Read more about Lanier below!
We will also be joined by Samira Crank from the Bears Ears Partnership to hear about the history of Bears Ears National Monument and Visiting with Respect.
