Labyrinth Canyon on the Green River is a wilderness treasure that may undergo a change in its Travel Management Plan, affecting its status as designated wilderness. This fall, take a trip through the twists and turns of this remote river with an all female guide and guest crew to learn about the history and future of public lands like Labyrinth Canyon.

This trip features discussions with Laura Petersen, a public lands attorney, advocate, and expert in Utah land management and designation, as well as Gretchen Henderson, a writer, artist, and scholar. Full bios can be found in the “Content Expert” tab below. We will also be joined by CFI Naturalist Educators who will lead hikes and short talks on geology, ecology, and river history.

Trip Itinerary:

Day 1, September 21: Arrive in Green River and check into your hotel. The accommodations are included within the fee, but dinner is on your own this evening. We will meet up for an evening orientation at 7:30 p.m. We will take some time passing out essential gear, talking about the trip, and getting to know each other.

Day 2: After a continental breakfast provided by the hotel, and some final packing, we’ll head to Ruby Ranch to meet the educators, hear a safety orientation, and launch on the river!

Days 2 – 5: Our days are a pleasant mix of time in camp, short informative talks, great meals and side hikes both on public land. We will wind through Labyrinth Canyon, enjoy the breathtaking scenery, and set up camp on large, sweeping beaches, gravel bars, or shelves. Greet the days with hot coffee and breakfast, and unwind at camp with a cold drink while the educators take care of meal service, logistics, and river navigation.

Throughout this time, we will also hear from our Guest Content Experts! They’ll take the time to share knowledge and insights, while leading discussions around issues critical to the past, present, and future of the river. CFI trips always feature multiple perspectives and educational content led by expert professionals designed to create connection to these incredible surroundings.

Day 5: The last day brings time to reflect and express gratitude for the gifts the river has given us. We’ll float the last few miles after lunch and reach the takeout early afternoon, returning to Green River in the evening to say our farewells.
